I have been thinking about whether it is best to put the thermal mass wall on the living spaces or the bedrooms as we were discussing in the tute. This house on the Mornington Peninsula (Christopherchris Architects) has it backing on tho the living areas (although it is facing west). As Silas mentioned it is good to have it on the living room walls as the heat that was trapped in the daytime is released when people are sitting around in the evening - good for those cold desert nights. There is just problems then with what to put on the other side of the courtyard (see sketches).
I really like the horizontal lines of this house too. I think it ties in with what we have discussed.

Also it has a great plan (check out their website). It is L shaped with the bedrooms off on one bit of the L. I think a plan like that would be ideal in out situation as the bed/study areas could be separate from the living spaces. Also living spaces have uninterupted views. I would however be reluctunt to loose out courtyard. Maybe we could just have a wall around our courtyard.
The low flat roof that appears to float above the solid rammed earth wall is really nice to. The windows might assist cross ventilation.
